The October international break is often a dangerous time for Premier League bosses. The likes of Everton’s Marco Silva and Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino are under immense pressure, with speculation that Silva could be sacked before gameweek nine of the top-flight campaign.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also fast emerging as a potential managerial casualty. He is, of course, a club icon. However, a 1-0 defeat at struggling Newcastle on Sunday means United have taken just nine points from eight games so far this season.

The current United team is mediocre and has just stagnated over the last few seasons. The recruitment from the Red Devils in recent years has been shocking.

Ironically, this summer’s signings Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James and Harry Maguire could still work out. The problem is that boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may not be around to see the trio flourish.

The Norwegian boss has called for patience from the United hierarchy. However, with every defeat, the Solskjaer is looking more and more out of his depth.

It was a huge gamble to hire him from Molde. However, it is easy to see the logic in his appointment. Solskjaer had done a stellar job as caretaker boss, so the Red Devils took a chance on him.

With that decision, there was always a big chance that it may work out, as he had never managed at the highest level of the game. Solskjaer cannot take all the blame for United’s current predicament, though.

The people at the top of the club need to take responsibility for the team’s demise. However, they only seem interested in United as a business asset.

That means that it is not unrealistic that the club’s owners will sack Solskjaer and hire another head coach. Really, they should take a long hard look at themselves, as they are ruining one of English football’s biggest institutions. However, the teams struggles is unlikely to bother them, as long as the money keeps flowing into their coffers.
