Liverpool and City continue to go blow to blow in the title race

The destination of the Premier League title is still no clearer after the weekend games. The top two teams Liverpool and Manchester City both picked up wins, as neither side is yielding to the other in the race to be crowned English champions.

Manchester City recorded a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace on Sunday, as Raheem Sterling grabbed a brace. In the later game, Liverpool responded by recording a 2-0 home win over Chelsea at Anfield, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah finding the net.

The two results mean that Liverpool are currently two points ahead of the Citizens, although Pep Guardiola’s team have a game in hand. The game in hand could prove to be the crucial factor, considering the fact both sides keep winning their games.

City’s game in hand just happens to be at arch and city rivals Manchester United, who are still in contention to qualify for the Champions League.

The Red Devils fans will not be keen on either side winning the title, so it is a lose-lose situation for United.

Liverpool look to have the easier run-in of the two teams. The Reds could win all their remaining games quite comfortably on paper.

Manchester City faces a home game against Tottenham this weekend prior to their trip to Old Trafford next Wednesday. If Guardiola’s team come through those two games unscathed, then they will be hot favourites to retain their title.

For fans of the two teams, it is set to be a nerve-wracking end to the season. For neutrals, it is a truly fascinating situation. Neither side has cracked under the pressure of the title race, yet.

Liverpool have won their last five league games, while Manchester City have recorded nine straight league wins. With both teams in such good form, it is anybody’s guess who will come out on top in one of the most exciting title races in recent Premier League history.
