This weekend seemingly saw a shift of power in the title race to reigning champions Manchester City. The Citizens are now a point ahead of north west rivals Liverpool in the race to become English champions.
Manchester City recorded a 1-0 win at Bournemouth on Saturday, while Liverpool drew 0-0 at Everton on Sunday in the 200th Merseyside derby.
The Reds trip to their neighbours was never going to be easy and the out-of-form Toffees managed to produce a highly disciplined display to dent their rival’s hopes of ending their long wait for a title victory.
The draw at Goodison Park means that Liverpool, who just a few weeks ago held a seven-point lead over City, are now playing catch up on Pep Guardiola’s men.
One thing that works in the Reds favour is their seemingly favourable remaining fixtures. Jurgen Klopp’s side faces two of the league’s top six in Chelsea and Tottenham, but both games are at Anfield, where the Reds are unbeaten this season in the league.
The rest of Liverpool’s games are against struggling teams that the Reds would really expect to beat. Everton away was seen as Liverpool’s last difficult away fixture of their Premier League campaign.
City do still face Tottenham at home and neighbours Manchester United at Old Trafford, in what could be a game that decides the fate of the title. United will not win want City or Liverpool to win the title. However, one of them will the title and the Red Devils are still battling for a Champions League spot, so will still need to win to aid their own cause.
Looking at the remaining fixtures, Liverpool has got the more comfortable fixtures, so maybe their dreams of winning the Premier League title did not die over Stanley Park.
