On Tuesday night, Leicester announced Brendan Rodgers as the clubs new boss. The Foxes activated Rodgers release clause in his contract at previous Celtic to allow Rodgers a return to the English top-flight.

The former Liverpool boss was in attendance at the Foxes 2-1 win over Brighton on Tuesday night in the Premier League, a win that ended a horrendous run of form for the team from the Midlands in the top-flight.

Rodgers has enjoyed a trophy-laden 32 months at Celtic, with the highlight winning an unprecedented domestic treble. The Hoops were on for the same glut of silverware this season, which had some scratching their heads about Rodgers decision to leave the Glasgow giants.

However, there is another way of looking at the situation. The Northern Irishman now has the chance to assess his players for the rest of the season before the all-important summer transfer window.

The Leicester squad is certainly not short of talent, but there was a sense that those players were reined in by former boss Claude Puel’s rather cautious tactics. The Frenchman’s style of football is not to everybody’s taste and the fact he was still Foxes boss at the start of the campaign was slightly surprising.

The Rodgers appointment makes sense for Leicester City. They have appointed a highly-rated and still young head coach, with a heap of ambition and undoubted coaching abilities.

The 46-year-old is much maligned for his final year or so at Liverpool. However, it is easy to forget that he guided the Reds to within a few games of ending their Premier League title drought. If it were not for individual errors on the pitch, the Reds would have become English champions, ending a wait of more than two decades for a title triumph.

In short, Leicester City needed a talented young boss, who has the ability to get the best out of their talented group of players and move the team forward. On paper, Rodgers looks like he could be that man. Only time will tell if he is successful in the Midlands, but all signs suggest he could be a shrewd appointment for the Foxes.
