Chelsea are on the verge of signing Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus on loan until the end of the season, with the deal extending another season if he achieves pre-set objectives.
The striker had been on-loan at AC Milan this season. However, the Rossoneri have allowed Higuain to cut short the deal, as they are on the verge of signing Genoa hot shot, Krzysztof Piatek.
Chelsea have been at the heart of a striker merry-go-round, with Blues Spanish striker Alvaro Morata joining Atletico Madrid on loan until the end of the campaign.
Morata and fellow striker Olivier Giroud have struggled to make an impact of late at Stamford Bridge. Neither has fitted into Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri’s style of play since the Italian’s summer arrival.
The Blues have not been at their best in recent games. Belgian superstar Eden Hazard has been playing as a false number nine, which has negated his attacking threat slightly. Signing Higuain would allow Hazard to move back into his preferred position.
Sarri knows Higuain well from their time together at Napoli. In fact, the Argentinian striker enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career in Naples.
Higuain has developed a reputation as one of the most effective goalscorers in the European game in the last decade. The experienced striker did not enjoy a great half season at Milan, scoring six goals in 15 Serie A appearances.
However, a reunion with Sarri may just prove to be the perfect move for Higuain. Chelsea have very little to lose in signing the Argentinian and lots to gain. The Blues will sign a striker with a great pedigree and paying very little for the privilege.
Higuain has proven a success in La Liga. There is very little to suggest that the goal poacher will not be a success in the Premier League.
