Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points with a win at Brighton on Saturday. Manchester City could cup the gap on Monday night, though, as the Citizens host Wolves.

In truth, Liverpool have been relentless in the way they have gone about their business in the Premier League. The display against Brighton was one of persistence and determination to hold the lead.

The Seagulls posed little attacking threat during the 90 minutes. However, the Reds still needed a save by Alisson and a superb defensive block in the area by Fabinho to keep the scores level.

The Merseysiders were not at their best going forward, despite dominating possession, as Klopp’s team do against most teams in the Premier League. Winning when not at your best is the hallmark of a team that finishes a campaign as champions.

Liverpool now seem to have everything in their team steel, flair and determination. A supposed lack of creativity in the midfield area of the team will only matter against the best teams in Europe.

The presence of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in the starting line-up is usually enough to give the Reds victory over most teams in the Premier League. The Reds back-up option is Xherdan Shaqiri, who has made an impact off the bench mostly this season.

Reigning champions Manchester City are now under major pressure to beat Wolves and reduce Liverpool’s lead back to four points. Pep Guardiola’s side cannot afford to fall further behind in the title race.

However, at the minute Liverpool are very much in control of the title race. If the Reds keep winning it does not matter what City does for the rest of the season and the Merseysiders will finally end their search for a top-flight title.
