According to morning reports, Everton are set to appoint Sam Allardyce as their next boss. The reports suggest that the former England boss will sign a deal until the end of the season, which suggests that the Merseysiders see him as a short-term fix.

The Toffees majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has held talks with the experienced boss, while there will also be a board meeting at the Merseyside club later this week.

Allardyce may have his critics within football, but it is very difficult to argue with his record of keeping teams in the Premier League. Big Sam has never suffered relegation from the English top-flight.

He has kept the likes of Bolton, Blackburn, West Ham, Sunderland and Crystal Palace in the Premier League, often against all odds.

Everton moved out of the relegation zone last Sunday with a last-gasp 3-2 win over Watford under interim boss David Unsworth. However, the team has struggled for results, shape and any sort of form this season.

The Toffees have been poor at both ends of the field, conceding heaps full of goals and failing to make an impact on the opposition’s goal.

One thing Sam Allardyce is very good at is organising his teams. He will bring a wealth of experience to the job, even if he is not a popular choice with the fans.

Everton majority shareholder Moshiri has big ambitions for the club. However, one of those is not to taste life in the Championship anytime soon. If as expected Allardyce is hired, then it will only be until the end of the season.

The man that Moshiri and the board want as Everton boss may not be available until the summer. If that is the case, then hiring Allardyce is not a terrible decision, as the Toffees are likely to survive the drop, even if it is not pretty.
