Swansea City pulled off the shock result of the weekend by winning 3-2 at high-flying Liverpool on Saturday. The win came out of nowhere, as the Swans had been in poor form heading to Anfield. In fact, in their last top-flight game suffered a 4-0 home mauling against Arsenal.
The win moved the Swans out of the Premier League’s relegation zone and gave fans hope that their team may survive the drop this season. Prior to the win, there were major doubts about the Welsh side’s ability to stay in the top-flight.
Spanish striker Fernando Llorente was one of the heroes on Merseyside for the Swans scoring a brace in the second half. The giant striker has now scored eight goals in the Premier League, having not always started top-flight games.
Llorente is a player that has proven down the years he can score goals at the highest level. Given the chances, the Spanish international will score goals for the Swans. He is also a superb focal point for his team’s attacking play.
The 31-year-old was recently linked with a move to Chelsea, but boss Paul Clement has stated that he will try his best to keep hold of the striker. His brace at Liverpool is unlikely to do anything to curb the speculation about a possible move to Stamford Bridge.
Sigurdsson scored the winner and is another player that can provide the Swans with a touch of quality from an attacking midfield position. The Icelandic star has scored six goals and also produced six assists for the Welsh side.
With Llorente and Sigurdsson in their side, Swansea always have a chance of scoring goals. Boss Clement still has a lot of work to do to sort out his side's defence problems.
However, if the former Derby boss can find a solution to the Swans defensive issues then the Welsh Side will have a fighting chance of staying in the top-flight.
