Top Games as European Club Football Returns

Top Games as European Club Football Returns
    31/03/23 1889

Following a two week break for international football, European club fixtures return and we have some fantastic games to enjoy this weekend.

We begin with the Premier League clash between Manchester City and Liverpool. Manchester City cannot afford to drop any points in their pursuit of Arsenal at the top of table and they are 8 points behind with a game in hand.

Liverpool are in 6th place and out of contention for the title but want to get into the top four. A win in this match would be a huge confidence boost for the remainder of the season.

This is going to be a tight game and it will be interesting to see if Erling Haaland recovers from his injury in time to play for the hosts.

Remaining in the Premier League and we have a top five clash between Newcastle United and Manchester United. The Magpies want revenge for their defeat in the League Cup final and a win would see them move above Manchester united into the top four.

The Red Devils need to bounce back from the home draw with Southampton and this could be a game with plenty of goals.

The top two meet in Germany this weekend in Der Klassiker, with Borussia Dortmund top on 53 points and Bayern Munich second on 52 points. Union Berlin are in third place and will be hoping to take advantage of any dropped points.

Bayern Munich parted with their manager during the international break and Thomas Tuchel as stepped in. The home fans will be hoping he has an immediate impact but Borussia Dortmund have been in fantastic form in the Bundesliga. This could be the most entertaining game of the weekend.

Moving to Spain and the penultimate match of the weekend is between Atletico Madrid and Real Betis. This is a crucial game in terms of the top four and a win for Atletico Madrid would see them take control but a victory for Real Betis would make things interesting in the race for Champions League football next season.

Atletico Madrid have improved since the World Cup but Real Betis have improved themselves in recent weeks in the league. The Atletico Madrid defence is not as reliable as it once was and that could lead to both teams scoring in this match.

The title race is all but over in Italy but Napoli face a tough game as they host Milan following the international fixtures. Napoli have been tremendous this season and will not want to falter in the final stages of the campaign.

Milan have a fight on their hands to qualify for the Champions League and could find they fall further behind the top four with a defeat in Naples.

Finally, we head to France and the clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais in the Parc des Princes. Lyon are out of the reckoning in terms of Champions League qualification this season but PSG lost their most recent Ligue 1 fixture at home to Rennes.

We must go back to 2021 to find the last time PSG lost two home league games in a row and it is unlikely to happen again as they edge closer to the title.
