Wales drew 1-1 Serbia at the Millennium Stadium in World Cup qualifying on Saturday. The Dragons performance was met with whistles and boos at the end of the game.
Wales have now drawn their last three qualifiers, having opened their campaign with a 4-0 win over Moldova. In many ways, Chris Coleman’s side are victims of their own success at Euro 2016.
It seems at the moment the Dragons are far too dependent on Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to win games. The Los Blancos star opened the scoring and also hit the post against Serbia.
However, although Bale seems to enjoy the burden of being the match-winner other players have to step-up for the Dragons. They cannot just expect the Real star to make things happen every time they go onto the pitch.
Bale is a top player, but Wales have a number of other good players in their team. One of those players is Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who on his day is a big attacking threat. The Gunners star is only just returning from injury, so he maybe has an excuse for a slightly rusty display.
Maybe the Wales players, like the fans are just waiting for Bale to do something and they will follow suit. The Real Madrid man is only human, though and he needs his teammates to chip in with good performances as well.
Football is a team game and in reality, one man cannot make a team, even if that one man is as talented as Gareth Bale. The Welsh fans may have been spoilt by their Euro 2016 success, as booing their team for only achieving a draw against a technically gifted Serbian side was slightly harsh.
Gareth Bale’s teammates need to support the star on the pitch as if they do not then Wales may well fail to qualify from the most open group in European World Cup qualifying.
