Will Kane Become Highest Goal Scorer in Premier League History?

Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game as Tottenham Hotspur beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 in the Premier League.

The England international struck in the 64th minute to seal the points for his club and maintain their unbeaten start to the 2022/23 season.

Kane was on hand last weekend to take a point from Chelsea in the dying moments of the match at Stamford Bridge and will be aiming to win the golden boot this season. The question is, will Kane become the highest goal scorer in the history of the Premier League?

Kane’s goal against Wolves was his 185th goal in the Premier League, all of which have come for Spurs. The goal saw Kane move ahead of Manchester City legend, Sergio Aguero, who scored 184 goals during his time in English football.

Kane is now only 2 goals behind Andy Cole, who scored 187 goals in the Premier League with Newcastle United, Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, and Portsmouth.

Cole won several trophies, including the Premier League title five times with Manchester United, something Kane has yet to achieve. However, Kane is certain to move above Cole in the Premier League all time top scorers chart this season and then the Spurs striker will have Wayne Rooney in his sights.

Rooney scored 208 goals in the Premier League for Everton and Manchester United, with 183 of those goals coming during his time at Old Trafford.

Again, Rooney won several honours with Manchester United and that is something missing from the Kane CV but no one can doubt the quality of Kane as a striker.

A particularly good season from Spurs and Kane in the Premier League this season could see him move ahead of Rooney and into second place in the all time Premier League top scorers list.

Kane needs to score another 24 goals in the league for that to happen before the end of this season and if Spurs have a good campaign, it is a real possibility.

However, catching Alan Shearer is another matter and the former Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United striker scored 260 goals in the Premier League.

Kane is currently 75 goals behind Shearer and it will need another two good goal scoring seasons from Kane before he will catch Shearer at the top of the pile. At 29 years of age, Kane has enough time, should he stay in the Premier League, to score the goals required to move above Shearer and become the all-time top goal scorer in the Premier League.

In terms of the all-time English football first tier top scorers, Kane has no chance of catching Jimmy Greaves. The Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur legend scored a total of 357 goals in the First Division, with Steve Bloomer, and Dixie Dean also scoring more than 300 topflight English league goals.

So, catching Alan Shearer for the Premier League record is realistic but the overall top goal scorer record is out of reach for Kane.
