Following a five-year absence, the UEFA European Women’s Championship returns to England in July. With less than a month until the tournament, it’s time to check out the bookmakers’ favourites to lift the trophy.

The Netherlands are the defending champions, having triumphed on home soil in 2017. But there are plenty of other teams who will fancy their chances of securing the silverware. Let’s take a closer look at the main contenders.

    Spain (4.50)

Priced at 4.50 by the bookmakers, Spain are the favourites to win the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022. Although they have never won the European Championship, they have the squad to change that.

Spain are currently enjoying a 21-game unbeaten streak, having last tasted defeat all the way back in March 2020. Led by Barcelona Femení stars like Alexia Putellas, Jennifer Hermoso, and Aitana Bonmatí, La Roja are a forced to be reckoned with.

    England (5.50)

Of course, there is plenty of pressure on England to end their European Championship drought on home soil. Fortunately for the Lionesses, they have more than enough world-class players to deal with the pressure.

It is also worth noting that England are now managed by Sarina Wiegman, the woman who led the Netherlands to Euros glory in 2017. She knows what it takes to win this tournament.

    France (5.50)

France are currently enjoying a 12-game winning streak. When you look at the bigger picture, they have won 17 of their previous 18 encounters across all competitions.

Believe it or not, Les Blues have never managed to win a major tournament – despite consistently churning out top players. Can they finally end their long wait for a major trophy this summer?

    Netherlands (6.50)

The reigning champions are priced at 6.50 to defend their crown. But how will they fare without Wiegman at the helm? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

There is plenty of uncertainty surrounding the Netherlands. However, there is nothing uncertain about Vivianne Miedema’s goalscoring record. The Arsenal striker has scored 92 goals in 108 games for her country, so she could fire the Dutch to glory.

    Germany (8.00)

It’s safe to say that Germany are the undisputed queens of European football. Indeed, they have won eight of the 12 Euros titles over the years – including six on the spin between 1995 and 2013.

Funnily enough, the Germans fells in the quarter-finals of the 2017 European Championship before falling at the same stage in the 2019 World Cup. That’s why four teams have lower odds to lift the trophy this summer.
