Atletico show their quality once again in Bayern win

Atletico Madrid have become one of the most accomplished teams in the Champions League in recent seasons. Los Rojiblancos produced another strong display in the group stages of the competition with a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

Diego Simeone’s side seem to rise to the big occasion more often than not, except in the Champions League final it seems. Atleti have evolved their style slightly this season. The Spaniards showed a more attacking style against Bayern, even after taking the lead.

However, the team still had their trademark defensive solidity and kept a good shape. With every passing Champions League and La Liga campaign Atletico are proving time and time again that they are a high quality team.

Atletico’s Argentinian boss Diego Simeone has continually impressed in the Champions League and the Spanish domestic league with his tactical acumen. The fact that he recently took the unusual step of reducing his contract in Madrid suggests he could be set for pastures new in the near future.

If Simeone does leave the club from the Spanish capital in the near future, the Argentine will be highly in-demand. He has created a legacy at Atletico Madrid that will last a long time. Whether a new boss can continue his work in the Spanish capital remains to be seen.

However, for now, Atletico Madrid will be a formidable challenge to any team that faces them in this year’s competition, just like they have been for the past couple of seasons.

The difference in this team from last season may be that the team has slightly more of an attacking edge to it. Maybe Simeone has let the reigns off his players slightly and that could mean bad news for Atletico’s opponents for the rest of the campaign.

Atletico Madrid are considered the third best team in Spain by some. However, if they continue in a similar vein for the rest of the campaign, Simeone and co may just win finally the trophy that they have come so close to winning in recent years.
