The draw for the Champions League group stages takes place at 5PM on Thursday. All four English teams will be looking for a good draw.
One of those English teams involved, Manchester City cruised into the group stages on Wednesday with a 1-0 home victory over Steaua Bucharest in the competition play-off to win 6-0 on aggregate.
City under Pep Guardiola could be a dangerous team in this year’s competition. Last season the Citizens made the semi-finals under Manuel Pellegrini and were beaten 1-0 on aggregate against eventual winners Real Madrid.
With Guardiola at the helm, there will be few teams that the Manchester team will fear as they are in pot 2 of Thursday's draw. The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich will obviously be the teams to watch out for, but if City are drawn against any of the other top seeds Guardiola’s side will fancy their chances of topping their group.
The Citizens’ players seem to have already bought into Guardiola’s ideas and philosophy. City have produced some very encouraging displays under Guardiola, but the Catalan will be asking more of his players.
Considering the Citizens only made the group stages via the play-off there will be a lot of teams hoping to avoid the Citizens in the draw. Guardiola in the dugout gives his team a special belief that they will be successful.
His aura at Barcelona was immense and helped raised the team’s performance levels tremendously during his time at the Nou Camp. No doubt nabbing Guardiola was a major coup and the Citizens could one of the teams to watch in this season's Champions League.
