Bruce resignation makes Hull favourites for the drop

Bruce resignation makes Hull favourites for the drop

Hull City was promoted to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs last season. The 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the play-off final, saw the Tigers return to the top-flight following just one season in the second tier.

However, the Tigers are yet to strengthen their squad this summer. The lack of transfer activity has seen experienced boss Steve Bruce quit his job. The 55-year-old has guided the side from Humberside to two promotions and an FA Cup Final.

The only blot on his copybook was relegation from the Premier League in 2015. To his credit he helped the club recover with promotion. The Tigers squad has been decimated by long-term injuries to the likes of Allan McGregor, Moses Odubajo and Michael Dawson.

In fact, the Tigers were left with just 12 fit senior players. Obviously Bruce was unhappy that the club had not brought in any new signings this summer. The club’s hierarchy are looking to sell the club and during their tenure in charge of the club have made some controversial decisions.

Hull would have started the Premier League campaign as favourites for relegation. However, Bruce’s exit and a lack of new arrivals look to have lessened the Humberside team’s chances of avoiding the dreaded drop next season.

The majority of Hull fans have wished Bruce well on forums and comment sections. A number have criticised the clubs ownership for some of their controversial decisions. Bruce leaving the club will not help salvage the relationship between the owners and the Tigers fans.

The next boss to take the reins at the club will have to be a brave man, because at the moment it will take a miracle to keep the Tigers out of the relegation zone next season.
