David Moyes could be a good appointment for Sunderland

According to Sky Sports, Sunderland will look to appoint David Moyes as their new boss with their current manager Sam Allardyce set to be named as the next England boss.

Moyes has endured a difficult time since leaving Everton three years ago. His tenure as Manchester United boss lasted less than a year, while the Scot also experienced mixed results with La Liga club Real Sociedad, a club he left in November 2015.

However, both of those jobs came with massive difficulty. When Moyes arrived at Old Trafford the team he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson was in decline, despite winning the Premier League title the season before.

Expectations were huge and the Scot was not backed in the transfer market by the Red Devils board. When he arrived at Sociedad the Spanish team were in the midst of a relegation battle and the Scot guided them to safety. However, a poor start to last season saw Moyes sacked.

However, there are positives to take from Moyes earlier career with Everton. He turned the Toffees from perennial relegation strugglers to a team that regularly challenged for European spots.

He steadied the ship on Merseyside and did it with very little financial resources. Sunderland bosses’ do not tend to last long. The scot would arrive on Tyneside with a major point to prove and determined to show that he is still a good manager.

His 11 years at Everton may not have yielded any trophies, but he helped rebuild a once great club. Maybe Moyes could help the Black Cats avoid the annual relegation scrap next season.
