When Christian Eriksen fell to the ground in Demark’s Euro 2020 clash with Finland back in July, everyone feared the worst. But just seven months after his collapse, the 29-year-old could be set for a remarkable return.

Last month, Eriksen was released by Inter Milan after being told he could not play in Serie A having been fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator following his cardiac arrest.

But with no such regulation in the Premier League, the ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder could be on his way back to England.

It has been reported Brentford have offered Eriksen a six-month contract. Newcastle are also rumoured to be interested in acquiring his services, with former club Spurs another potential destination.

Brentford feels like the most probable move for Eriksen at this stage, as the Bees have a strong Danish connection. Not only is manager Thomas Frank a Dane, but eight members of the first-team squad are also from Denmark.

Brentford’s owner Matthew Benham also owns Danish club FC Midtjylland, adding another level to the Brentford-Denmark connection.

Eriksen started his professional career at Ajax, bagging 32 goals and 65 assists in 163 games his for the Dutch giants. His standout performances earned him a move to the Premier League.

The gifted midfielder went on to make 305 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions. During his seven-year stay in North London, he racked up 69 goals and 90 assists.

Eriksen moved to Inter Milan in 2020 and helped the Nerazurri to end Juventus’ domination of Serie A, playing a key role in the club’s 2021 scudetto triumph.

Before his unfortunate incident at Euro 2020, Eriksen earned 109 caps for Demark – registering 36 goals and 25 assists for his country.

Of course, there is no doubting his ability. The prolific playmaker has consistently chipped in with both goals and assists throughout his career. Hopefully, he can pick up where he left off before his incident.

Although Newcastle and Tottenham have both been linked with Eriksen, it feels like a move to Brentford makes the most sense. In a team stacked with Danish players, Eriksen would be the star of the show.
