Antonio Conte is a phenomenal appointment for Tottenham

On Tuesday, Tottenham appointed Antonio Conte as their head coach. The former Chelsea boss has signed an 18-month deal with the north London club.

The appointment is a coup for Spurs, as they could not have appointed a better head coach. Conte is one of the best head coaches in world football.

The Italian gets results and wins trophies wherever he coaches. However, Tottenham may well be the biggest challenge for Conte in his recent career, as they are a team that seems to lack direction and focus.

Conte’s predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment was never going to work out. Instead of appointing Conte in the summer, they reportedly failed to come to an agreement with the Italian.

Instead, the north London club chose the far cheaper option of the former-Wolves boss.

The new boss will arrive with Spurs tenth-place in the table. However, they are only five points off the Champions League spots, with plenty of time left to resurrect their league campaign.

One of Conte’s main abilities is getting the best out of players, so maybe he can rescue Tottenham’s flagging season. He wrings every last bit of talent out of players, which will be a big asset to a Tottenham squad full of players that have been underperforming of late.

There is talent there, but the players have not been living to expectations in recent months.

The biggest challenge that Conte may have could be turning around the form of star striker Harry Kane. The England striker has struggled for form this season after he failed to secure a big-money move to reigning champions Manchester City.

If Conte can get Kane firing, then he will have already won one of his biggest battles.

Tottenham have for too long been the nearly men of the English game. In Antonio Conte, they have a world-class head coach, who is still at the peak of his career. The Italian could well be the right man, at the right place at the right time for Spurs.
