Remarkable Leicester City confirmed as English champions

Leicester City have been crowned as English champions, after title rivals Tottenham drew 2-2 at reigning champions Chelsea on Monday night. Spurs looked set to take the fight for the title to the last two games, after Mauricio Pochettino’s men were two goals up at half-time.

However, Chelsea roared back at the team from north London in the second half with goals from Gary Cahill and Eden Hazard levelling the scores. The visitors could not recover and the draw meant that Tottenham could no longer catch Leicester, who have been outstanding for much of the campaign.

This is the first English top-flight title for the Foxes and they become the first new champions of the English top-flight in 38 years. Their story is quite a remarkable one, as the side from the Midlands went from one of the favourites for relegation to champions.

The feat is even more impressive considering this season is only the Foxes second back in the Premier League following promotion. The underdogs have been fantastic, both as a team and individually.

Algerian playmaker Riyad Mahrez won PFA Player of the Year award, while striker Jamie Vardy won the FWA Footballer of the Year. Experienced Italian boss Claudio Ranieri is also now a certainty to win Manager of the Year.

The Leicester story will go down in history as one of the most remarkable ever in football. The Foxes have beaten all the odds to be crowned English champions, despite having spent very little compared to their rivals.

Leicester’s achievement is stuff of fiction. It’s a fairy-tale that has come true and the Foxes are the most popular winners of the Premier League for a long time.
