Newcastle finally showing some fighting spirit

Newcastle recorded a very creditable 1-1 draw at home against in-form Manchester City on Tuesday, despite the fact that football predictions prior to the match suggested the Citizens should probably win the game.

City took the lead through a controversial Sergio Aguero goal, as the Argentinian appeared to be in an offside position when he headed home. However, the Magpies fought back and rescued a point courtesy of a well-taken effort from Vurnon Anita.

It seems the Magpies are finally showing some fighting spirit, having displaying very little of it or quality for much of the campaign. Four points from their last two Premier League games has given the side from the north east a chance of surviving the drop this season.

The side from the north east does have some difficult fixtures to come this season, with games against Liverpool at the weekend and also against Tottenham towards the end of the campaign.

Rafa Benitez’s side are two points away from safety, but those difficult fixtures could just prove a stumbling block in the Magpies surviving the drop.

At they have put themselves back into contention to stay in the top-flight and not resigned to the fact that they will be playing Championship football next season.

Newcastle flirted with relegated to the second tier last season, but survived on the last day of the campaign. The current campaign’s fight for survival may also go right down to the wire with Sunderland Norwich also looking to avoid the dreaded drop into the second tier.

For most of the season Newcastle has looked poor, but at now the Magpies look like they will go down with a fight if they do indeed go down at all.
