The Yellow Submarine has once again surfaced in the top-flight of Spanish football this season, and the little club are making a big name for themselves in 2020.

Manager: Alvaro Cervera. The 55-year old has been in charge at Cadiz since April 2016, and his previous clubs include the likes of Tenerife, Racing Santander, and Recreativo. As a player, Cervera made over 350 appearances in Spanish league football, notably playing for Mallorca and Valencia. Between 1991-1992 Cervera represented the Spanish national team on four separate occasions.

Cadiz have never won the La Liga title nor the Copa del Rey in their 110-year history. However, the Yellow Submarines have claimed league titles at lower levels, first in 1944/45 when they won their regional title in the 4th tier of Spanish football.
In 1954 the club claimed the 3rd tier league title, and after being relegated back down to the third division in 1969, Cadiz won the league and returned to the Segunda Division at the first time of asking.
Cadiz made their debut in La Liga during the 1977/78 but ended up suffering relegation. The club had two more up and down seasons in which they earned promotion to the top-flight and were subsequently relegated the following campaign before having their most successful period during the mid-1980s and early 1990s. Cadiz participated in La Liga from 1985 through to 1993, finishing as high as 12th during the 1987/88 season.
The club went through a dark period after their relegation from the top-flight in 1993 with back to back relegations that saw them return to the third tier. Cadiz remained in the third division until 2003 and even made it back to La Liga for the 2005/06 campaign.
However, relegation would soon follow, and so would another stint in the third tier until 2016 when Cadiz once again found themselves in the Segunda Division. After four seasons in the second tier, including a 5th, 9th, and 7th place finish, the club earned promotion back to the top-flight in 2020.
Cadiz have impressed on their return to La Liga this season. With 8-games played, the club occupy 5th place in the table and have secured some memorable results. After initially starting with two defeats in their opening three matches against Osasuna and Sevilla, both at home, Cadiz have gone unbeaten in their last five league games.
The Yellow Submarines have won each of their four away games without conceding a single goal, including a famous 1-0 win at Real Madrid. Their strong defensive record is vital as Cadiz don’t score a lot of goals, but if the club continue in this manner, then they will surely topple their highest-ever top-flight finish of 12th.
