Pep Guardiola’s winning machine has claimed back-to-back Premier League titles and doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon.

City’s task this time around will be to continue their domestic dominance while trying to make their mark among Europe’s elite in the Champions League.

    Last season

Manchester City secured an unprecedented domestic treble last season. They finished two points clear of Liverpool at the top of Premier League whilst winning the League Cup and FA Cup by beating Chelsea and Watford respectively.

City scored an immense 95 Premier League goals and Sergio Aguero finished as the club’s top scorer with 21 league goals to his name. Wingers Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane both picked up 10 assists in the league last season and were key to City’s domestic success.

    Next season

This will be the first season in over a decade that Manchester City will be without Vincent Kompany. The talismanic defender has returned to Anderlecht – the club where it all started for him – and although the 33-year-old suffered a number of injuries throughout his time with City, he will be greatly missed by the club.

Fabian Delph has also departed to join fellow Premier League side Everton. The midfielder has been a loyal servant to the club over the years but found his chances limited last season and has left in search of regular first-team action.

Big-money signing Rodri is the most notable addition to the squad. The young Spaniard joined from Atletico Madrid and is expected to fill the boots of the aging Fernandinho. The Brazilian was blighted by injury last season and at 34, Guardiola deemed it crucial to bring in adequate cover in the midfield.

While Manchester City will undoubtedly be going for the Premier League title once again, all eyes will be on their Champions League campaign next season.

With the amount of money that has been pumped into the club in recent years, City are yet to make it past the semi-final stage of the Champions League and many believe that they cannot be considered as one of the continents’ top clubs until they have claimed European football’s top prize.
