Wolverhampton Wanderers – Premier League Preview (2023-24)
    10/08/23 1204

With questions regarding Julen Lopetegui’s future continuing to circulate, Wolverhampton Wanderers head into the new campaign under something of a cloud.

Consequently, the Molineux are looking for answers.

    Manager: Julen Lopetegui

    Stadium: Molineux

    Last Season: 13th

In a recent interview with high-profile journalist Guillem Balague, Lopetegui revealed that he is frustrated with a lack of signings due to the club’s financial issues.

Can the Spanish manager make Wolves competitive on the pitch?

    What Happened Last Season?

Wolverhampton Wanderers managed to win just two of their opening 15 Premier League matches last term, while Bruno Lage was sacked in early October. As a result, the Wanderers looked destined for relegation.

However, Lopetegui arrived to steady the ship and finally guided the club out of the drop zone in January.

Wolves eventually finished 13th in the table – seven points clear of the bottom three – having turned things around under Lopetegui.

Still, there is no hiding the fact that Wolves were the lowest scorers in the Premier League last season.

After netting a measly 31 goals in 38 games, the Wanderers will be determined to increase their attacking output in 2023-24.

    Key Players

Wolves have lost a number of important players this summer, selling the likes of Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins, Conor Coady and Raul Jimenez.

On top of that, Adama Traore, Diego Costa and Joao Moutinho have been released.

Despite the arrival of Matheus Cunha, Boubacar Traore and Matt Doherty, Lopetegui expects more signings before the new campaign gets underway.

Matheus Nunes enjoyed a promising debut season at Molineux, as did Goncalo Guedes.

Players like Max Kilman, Pedro Neto and Jose Sa also have the potential to take Wolves to the next level, but they will need to up their game in 2023-24.

What Can Wolves Achieve in 2023-24?

What Wolves can achieve in 2023-24 depends on several factors, with Lopetegui’s future up in the air and a lack of signings causing frustration.

If the club can sort those issues, fans will be a lot happier heading into the new season.

Given that Wolves finished just seven points clear of the drop zone last term, everyone involved with the club will be hoping for a smoother ride this time around.

If they can avoid relegation trouble, 2023-24 could be a successful season for the Wanderers.
