Brazil head into the 2022 World Cup as the bookmakers’ favourites to lift the trophy. Can the five-time champions go all the way in Qatar? Check out our preview and prediction for Group G, which also features Cameroon, Serbia and Switzerland.

    Brazil

    • 2018 World Cup: Quarter-Finals
    • Best World Cup Performance: Winners (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002)
    • Manager: Tite
    • FIFA World Ranking: #1

No nation has claimed more World Cup titles than Brazil’s five. However, since their last triumph back in 2002, the South American giants have only reached the semi-finals once – suffering three quarter-final exits.

That said, Brazil’s current squad will be confident of bucking that trend. Neymar, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Thiago Silva and Casemiro are just some of the world-class players who could guide their country to glory in Qatar.

    Cameroon

    • 2018 World Cup: Runners-Up
    • Best World Cup Performance: Quarter-Finals (1990)
    • Manager: Rigobert Song
    • FIFA World Ranking: #43

Earlier this year, Cameroon reached the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals on home soil. But a penalty-shootout defeat against Egypt saw them bow out of the tournament. Since then, they have lost to Algeria, Uzbekistan and South Korea.

The Indomitable Lions reached the World Cup quarter-finals back in 1990 but have failed to make it past the group stage on five occasions since then. They will need their key players to step up if they want to progress from Group G.

    Switzerland

    • 2018 World Cup: Round of 16
    • Best World Cup Performance: Quarter-Finals (1934, 1954)
    • Manager: Murat Yakin
    • FIFA World Ranking: #15

Switzerland have already claimed a couple of notable scalps in 2022, dispatching Portugal and Spain in the Nations League. But have they got what it takes to advance from Group G and go deep into the World Cup?

The Premier League trio of Granit Xhaka (Arsenal), Manuel Akanji (Manchester City) and Denis Zakaria (Chelsea) will be pivotal to Switzerland’s chances of success, as well Red Bull Salzburg’s Noah Okafor and Monaco’s Breel Embolo.

    Serbia

    • 2018 World Cup: Group Stage
    • Best World Cup Performance: Group Stage (2010, 2018)
    • Manager: Dragan Stojkovic
    • FIFA World Ranking: #21

Serbia’s attacking options make them a genuine threat to any opponent. Aleksandar Mitrovic has scored 50 goals in 76 games for his country, while Dusan Vlahovic, Luka Jovic and Dusan Tadic are also capable of producing magic.

The Eagles have lost just two of their eight games this year, securing victories over Hungary, Slovenia, Sweden and Norway. Following a pre-tournament friendly against Bahrain, they will be ready to hit the ground running in Qatar.

    Forebet’s Group G Prediction

    1. Brazil
    2. Serbia
    3. Switzerland
    4. Cameroon

Forebet predicts that Brazil will dominate Group G, with the five-time champions expected to avoid defeat before the knockouts. Serbia look set to snatch second place from Switzerland, leaving Cameroon stranded at the bottom.
