Earlier this season Granada emerged as one of La Liga’s surprise packages, topping the table ahead of Spain’s biggest clubs.
However, Diego Martinez’s team’s form has slipped slightly of late, as they head into Saturday evening’s home match against Atletico Madrid on a run of three straight league defeats.
In fact, the home side head into the clash with Atletico on the back of four defeats in six games, which is more like relegation form than that of a team threatening to challenge at the top of the table.
Last time out, Granada suffered a 2-0 defeat at Valencia, which also means that they have conceded at least twice in their last three league games.
Martinez’s team has still maintained a strong home record in the Spanish top-flight, though, as a 2-1 defeat against Real Sociedad in their last home outing ended a run of four straight home victories. The defeat not only ended the winning run but also a run of four straight home clean sheets for Martinez’s team.
When it comes to recent meetings with Atletico, things do not get any more positive, as the home side has failed to beat Los Rojiblancos in the last 12 meetings, suffering ten defeats in the process.
Atletico head into this clash on the back of a nine-game unbeaten run in La Liga. However, the visitors have recently had a problem turning draws into victories, with six of those undefeated matches finishing all-square. Last time, Diego Simeone’s team did manage to pick up a victory by recording a 3-1 home win over Espanyol.
Although Atletico are three games unbeaten on their travels in La Liga, they have drawn their last three outings at Real Valladolid, Alaves and last time out Sevilla.
Forebet predicts that Atletico will record a victory in a low-scoring clash to stay in touch with La Liga’s top-two, city rivals Real Madrid and leaders Barcelona.
