Tanzania face Algeria in Cairo on Monday with both teams at opposite ends of Group C.

Algeria have already qualified for the last sixteen and sit at the top of the group with six points. On the other hand, Tanzania are rock bottom of Group C after losing their opening two matches.

Algeria won their opening match 2-0 against Kenya and most recently beat fellow heavyweights Senegal to reach the knock out stage.

Youcef Belaili scored the only goal of the game, blasting home Sofiane Feghouli’s cross from the edge of the box.

The Desert foxes are yet to concede a goal at the tournament so far and are already looking like serious contenders for the title.

Tanzania opened their account with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Senegal. In their last match, they twice took the lead against Kenya but ended up losing 3-2.

Msuva gave his side an early lead after just six minutes. Kenya responded just before half-time but Genk striker Mbwana Samatta put Tanzania level just a minute later.

They failed to hold on to their advantage and conceded two goals in the second half to condemn them to a second consecutive defeat.

This leaves Tanzania needing a win against Algeria in the hope that they still may be able to qualify for the next round as one of the best third placed teams.

Algeria’s sole Africa Cup of Nations title came in 1990 when they hosted the tournament. In comparison, Tanzania are appearing at only their second AFCON tournament.

Tanzania have only ever registered one win against Algeria and that came all the way back in 1995.

There have been four draws between the two sides over the years whilst Algeria have beaten Tanzania five times.

Their most recent matches have ended 4-1 and 7-0 in favor of Algeria and it’s likely to be another comfortable victory for the Desert Foxes on Monday.

There is an evident gulf in class between the two teams. Algeria’s squad is littered with high-profile players and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez is just one of many players that could cause Tanzania serious problems.

Algeria are likely to cruise to a comfortable win against Tanzania and maintain their 100% record at AFCON 2019.
