Hull City revived their outside chances of grabbing a top six finish on Saturday afternoon when they registered a 3-1 home win against Reading which made it back-to-back wins for The Tigers who are just five points adrift of 6th placed Bristol City prior to the midweek action in the Championship.
Previously, Hull had grabbed an important three points with a 2-0 win away at Ipswich Town, and with the upcoming visit of relegation threatened Wigan Athletic to their KCOM Stadium this Wednesday night, Hull will no doubt fancy their chances of recording a third win on the trot in the Championship here.
Despite recently suffering back-to-back defeats away from home at Nottingham Forest and Norwich City, it’s been Hull’s dramatically improved set of results at home which has been impressive as The Tigers are now unbeaten in their last 11 matches on home turf.
In 8 of Hull’s last 11 matches have seen the hosts record all three points and the hosts have also scored 2 goals or more in each of their last 10 home matches too. Forward Bowen (21 goals) has scored first on 14 occasions, and he’s well supported by Campbell (11 goals) and Grosicki (9 goals) up front.
Wigan Athletic continue to just about keep their heads above water with Paul Cook’s side earning another point on Saturday with a vital 2-2 draw away at 6th placed Bristol City who are starting to re-discover their form under manager Lee Johnson.
It’s now three matches without defeat for Wigan who have recently beaten relegation candidates Bolton Wanderers 5-2 at home as well as holding Brentford to a 0-0 draw at their DW Stadium to keep the bottom three at arms length.
However, a poor sequence of results away from home this season have seen the visitors endure a miserable 18-match run without an away win in the Championship, and indeed, The Latics have managed just one win on their travels so far in this campaign which was a 3-0 win at Stoke City back in August of last year.
