Rotherham United did their chances of survival in the Championship no harm at all when they registered what could be a vital 2-1 home win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon and Rotherham manager Paul Warne will be wanting more of the same this Wednesday evening.

Rotherham still remain in the bottom three despite Saturday’s win but the hosts are just one point behind both Millwall and Reading ahead of their clash with high-flying Aston Villa at their AESSEAL New York Stadium with The Millers looking to post back-to-back wins in the Championship for the first time this season.

With just two wins from their last 14 matches overall in the Championship though, this won’t be an easy assignment for Rotherham although recent results suggest they could make life difficult for the visitors.

Rotherham have picked up wins against Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest in recent weeks as well as gaining points in draws with Wigan Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday.

However, when facing teams in the top six, Rotherham have drawn two (v Bristol City and Sheffield United) and lost three (v West Brom, Leeds United and Norwich City).

Meanwhile, Aston Villa continued their impressive winning momentum in the Championship on Saturday with a convincing 3-1 win away against a Sheffield Wednesday outfit who had previously put together a 12-match unbeaten sequence.

The win over The Owls made it six win on the trot for Dean Smith’s side who have hit a purple patch of form at just about the right time as the west midlands club now occupy a place in the play-off pack, sitting in 5th place and hold a three point cushion ahead of 7th placed Derby County.

It’s also three away wins on the bounce for Villa who have recently accounted for fierce local rivals, Birmingham City, as well as wins at Nottingham Forest and the aforementioned Sheffield Wednesday, and the goals are also coming from various sources which is an encouraging sign for the visitors.

Striker Abraham (23 goals) added to his tally along with midfielder McGinn (6 goals) while the likes of Grealish (4 goals) and Hourihane (6 goals) continue to dominate the midfield.

Rotherham United continue to battle away in order to avoid the drop but the quality of this Aston Villa side is now starting to shine and the visitors should walk away with all three points here.
