Bolton could sneak the points against Ipswich in low-scoring affair

Bolton Wanderers kept their hopes of Championship survival alive on Saturday when they secured a valuable three points with a 2-1 win away at QPR which resulted in the sacking of former QPR manager, Steve McClaren.

Bolton now return to their Macron Stadium where they’ll play host to bottom club Ipswich Town and the hosts will fancy their chances of securing back-to-back wins in the Championship for only the second time during what has been a very difficult and lengthy campaign for The Trotters.

However, Phil Parkinson’s side now have a real chance of pulling themselves out of the relegation mire in what looks a very winnable match against Ipswich Town, especially on the back of their morale-boosting win at Loftus Road against QPR last time out.

Goals continue to be a problem though for the hosts at home where they’ve managed just a total of 12 goals to date, and this has led to a number of matches resulting in under 2.5 goals - in fact, 11 of Bolton’s 19 home matches have been low-scoring affairs.

Ipswich Town’s run of matches without a win in the Championship extended to 12 matches on Saturday when the Tractor Boys suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Hull City which has moved the East Anglian outfit another step closer to the Championship trap-door.

Ipswich have stubbornly continued to persist with former Aston Villa manager, Paul Lambert despite an extremely poor sequence of results which have seen Ipswich gain just two wins from the 25 matches under Lambert’s reign since he took over last October.

The visitors therefore seem to have given up on Championship survival and appear to have nothing left in the tank to stage a late revival as the poor results continue. It’s also 13  away matches without success for Ipswich Town who have lost 9 and drawn 4, with their last three matches ending in 1-1 stalemates with Wigan Athletic, West Brom and Bristol City.

Ipswich have also scored just 12 goals in total away from home so far this season as the Tractor Boys have found goals hard to come by on the road this term, with 11 of their 19 away matches also resulting in under 2.5 goals.

Bolton Wanderers look the more likely to emerge with the points in this clash, but another low-scoring game could be in store here.
