Millwall v Norwich City - Match Preview

Millwall v Norwich City - Match Preview

Millwall’s Championship future still hangs in the balance following recent back-to-back defeats to Preston North End and Hull City, and although the hosts recorded a much needed and welcome 1-0 win away at Derby County, The Lions are still not yet out of the woods where relegation is concerned.

Millwall possess a four point cushion over the bottom three as they look ahead to this important home fixture with Norwich City, but the hosts know that their best chances of survival in the Championship are to make the most of their home matches at the New Den.

Millwall’s overall form has seen them lose four of their last eight matches in the second tier, while results at home have dipped again as Millwall have lost at home to Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End along with claiming single points at a time with draws against Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday.

This obviously means that Millwall are without a home from their last four, while they’ve gained just two wins out of their last nine matches at the New Den, so The Lions still have plenty to do to avoid the drop.

10 of Millwall’s 17 home matches though have seen both teams score, and as the hosts look to maximise their opportunities at home, the likes of Wallace (5 goals) and Gregory (7 goals) along with former Norwich striker, Morison, will be keen to get on the scoresheet today.

It’s looking very tight at the top of the Championship too as Norwich City look to protect a slender two point margin at the top of the second tier ahead of their tricky looking trip to Millwall this Saturday afternoon.

Overall, Norwich City have continued in their rich vein of form as they’ve posted back-to-back wins against Bolton Wanderers and Bristol City, scoring seven goals in the process as they hang onto top spot, but the lead at the top of the division has changed hands on a regular basis and just one slip-up could see either Sheffield United or Leeds United take advantage.

Norwich have won four of their last five matches overall with wins against Leeds United, arch-rivals Ipswich Town, Bolton Wanderers and Bristol City but they did slip up away at Preston North End 3-1 recently.

Although Norwich have produced a pretty consistent set of results both home and away so far this season, The Canaries have won just two of their last eight away matches and as the pressure increases, so does the prospect of an upset increase too.

12 of Norwich’s 17 away matches have seen both teams score, and with Millwall fighting for their lives down near the bottom of the Championship, the both teams to score option looks an attractive market here.
