Derby County v Hull City - Match Preview

Derby County v Hull City - Match Preview

Derby County were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw away at Preston North End last Friday night but ultimately, The Rams were very fortunate to walk away with a point as they increasingly found themselves under pressure from their hosts, especially in the second half.

Nevertheless, Frank Lampard’s team held out and they now return to Pride Park to host Hull City where the hosts are unbeaten in their last five matches, and have suffered just one defeat in their last 13 matches.

That loss came in a heavy 3-0 loss to Aston Villa, but overall, Derby’s home record is a fairly solid one that reads  W7 D5 L2 scored 20 conceded 15 so far this term. Mason Mount (4 goals) is expected to return to the midfield where he’ll link up with Harry Wilson (10 goals), but Marriott is still sidelines so Nugent will lead the attack once more.

There have been a few goals at Pride Park this season with 7 of the 14 matches resulting in the over 2.5 goals mark, with Derby netting in 11 of these 14 matches too.

Hull City bounced back from their 3-0 loss away at Blackburn Rovers last weekend with a midweek 2-0 home win over a floundering Stoke City outfit at the KCOM Stadium, but The Tigers hit the road again this Saturday to take on Derby County.

Nevertheless, it’s been a fantastic turnaround in form for Hull City under manager Nigel Adkins as he has transformed his side from relegation candidates to possible play-off hopefuls as they trail 6th placed Bristol City by  just a four point margin.

Hull City have suffered just one defeat from their last 12 matches in the Championship and still remain one of the form teams at the moment, while also picking up valuable points on the road too; recent times have seen The Tigers register wins at Bolton Wanderers, QPR, Preston North End and most impressive of all, Leeds United.

The goals have also flowed for the visitors who have scored in 10 of their 15 matches away from home while the over 2.5 goals mark has been reached in 9 of these 15 matches.

This is perhaps unsurprising considering the form that Hull’s attacking personnel have been in this season with the likes of Bowen (15 goals), Campbell (9 goals) and influential attacking midfielder Grosicki (5 goals, 6 assists).

It’s also worth mentioning that 5 of the last 7 meetings between these two sides have produced results that have achieved the over 2.5 goals mark, so we could be in for more goals at Pride Park today.
