It’s fair to say that it was an interesting midweek in terms of Premier League results and that is something that Leicester certainly played a part in, after their visit to a snow filled Anfield on Wednesday evening.
Claude Puel has come in for a whole host of criticism as of late and he must have feared the worst, not just on the evening but also in terms of whether or not he would still be in gainful employment come the final whistle.
That’s because the Foxes found themselves a goal down after just two minutes when Sadio Mane coolly slotted home. However, one must not forget that the East Midlands outfit have saved their best performances against the bigger sides this season.
Something that was once again evident on Merseyside, Harry Maguire’s equaliser just before the interval was nothing less than he and his teammates deserved and although it was a well earned point, they had plenty of opportunities to snatch all three.
At the same time though, results had gone against them elsewhere across the gameweek and that means that Leicester find themselves in the bottom half of the table going into this weekend’s clash with Manchester United.
And the Red Devils make the trip to the King Power having finally seen their perfect streak under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer come to an end. Not many would have identified Burnley as the team to do so, especially at Old Trafford.
However, that is exactly what happened on Tuesday night as United had to settle for a draw and were it not for a late comeback, one that was reminiscent of the teams that played under Sir Alex Ferguson things could have been a lot worse.
Burnley silenced the Old Trafford crowd as they found themselves 2-0 up, unfortunately for them this spirited United side refused to roll over and halved the deficit with three minutes remaining when Paul Pogba slotted home from the penalty spot.
That set up a grandstand finish and United snatched a point right at the end through a rather unlikely hero, if ever there was a time to score your first goal for the club then this was arguably the one.
Swedish defender Victor Lindelof found himself in the six-yard box and managed to fire into the roof of the net to complete a dramatic comeback, one that at least sees Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still unbeaten as United manager.
He will look for his side to return to winning ways, especially as they have ceded ground in the race for fourth place. At the same time though, it is a race that has been blown wide open after Chelsea have suffered successive Premier League defeats.
The question is which Leicester turns up, will it be the one who saves their best against the best or will it be the one that has been outclassed at home all too often this season. In fairness whichever version we see this weekend, you get the feeling that United will still come out on top.
