Millwall v Rotherham United - Match Preview

Millwall v Rotherham United - Match Preview

Millwall continued their promising turn around in form in recent weeks under manager Neil Harris when they registered a 3-2 home win over Premier League outfit Everton in last weekend’s 4th round FA Cup which has earned The Lions a very winnable 5th round tie away at League One strugglers, AFC Wimbledon.

It’s back to the bread and butter of the Championship this Saturday though as Millwall hold home advantage again at the New Den where they’ll entertain fellow strugglers, Rotherham United with three precious points on the line for both teams.

Millwall FC come into this encounter very much the favourites as they’ve lost just once in their last seven matches in all competitions which include wins against Reading, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town in the Championship as well as FA Cup wins over Hull City and Everton.

Although Millwall lost last time out on home turf in the Championship, this was a 2-0 defeat to 8th placed Blackburn Rovers and Saturday’s hosts still possess a decent looking record that consists of W6 D4 L4, scoring 20 goals and conceded 18.

Goalscoring Williams and Wallace (4 goals apiece) have provided good support for striker Lee Gregory (7 goals) who notched against Everton in the recent FA Cup victory.

Rotherham United are perched precariously just above the relegation zone with a slender one point margin separating them from third from bottom Reading although how much longer The Millers can avoid slipping down into the bottom three is anyone’s guess.

Rotherham recently eased their relegation worries with a 2-1 home win over Preston North End on New Years Day but since then, The Millers have lost their next three league matches on the trot with defeats incurred against Ipswich Town, Brentford and Leeds United.

Results away from home make even worse reading as the visitors have lost four of their last five on the road amidst a woeful away record that stands at W0 D4 L10, scored 8 and conceded 25 in reply.

The same old problems that condemned Rotherham to relegation in their last stint in the Championship look to have resurfaced again as The Millers just can’t buy an away win for love nor money, as well as finding the back of the net elusive on their travels.

Rotherham are the lowest goalscorers away from home in the Championship which is perhaps no surprise as they’ve failed to score in 7 of their 14 away matches to date in addition to failing to win an away match in the second tier for a staggering 39 matches.

This therefore looks a nailed on home win for Millwall here.
