Clarets set to edge past Dons in the Europa League

Clarets set to edge past Dons in the Europa League

On Thursday night, Burnley host Aberdeen at Turf Moor in the Europa League second qualifying round second leg.

The first leg of the tie at Pittodrie finished 1-1, so there is all to play for in this encounter, with the Premier League side holding a slight advantage due to the away goal.

The first leg of this tie was Burnley’s first ever appearance in the Europa League. The Clarets only previous appearances in European competition were in season 1960/61 in the European Cup and in the old Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1966/67.

Sean Dyche’s side recently experienced a massive injury blow with first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope ruled out for five months through injury. Tom Heaton should come in to replace the former Charlton star.

The team from Lancashire are big favourites to make it through to the next round of the Europa League.

Unlike the hosts, Aberdeen have a long history in this competition. The SPL side has a mixed record in Europe’s secondary competition in recent seasons. However, a record of just two wins from their last seven games in the competition is not a great one.

One recurring theme of Aberdeen’s latest games in the Europa League is that they have been low scoring, with seven of their last eight games producing under 2.5 goals.

Just like their latest Europa League form in general, the Dons form on their travels in recent years has been inconsistent. The Scottish side has suffered defeat in four of their last six matches in the competition.

The visitor’s latest away games in the Europa League have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in their last five away games in the competition.

Forebet predicts that Burnley will record a narrow victory in a low scoring encounter to squeeze through to the next round of the competition.
