On Wednesday night, midtable Athletic Bilbao host Valencia at San Mames in La Liga, with the visitors looking to consolidate their position in the league’s top-four.

Athletic Bilbao have been very inconsistently this season in La Liga. The Basque side’s unconvincing form has seen them drop down to 12th place, eight points off the Europa League spots.

A 2-1 home win over Malaga last time out ended a six-game winless run for the home side in La Liga. However, four of those six winless games finished in draws. In fact, the team from Bilbao like a draw, as eight of their last 14 La Liga games have finished all square.

Athletic’s recent La Liga games have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five outings in the Spanish top-flight.

Jose Angel Ziganda’s side are unbeaten in seven home games at San Mames in La Liga. However, again five of those games have resulted in draws.

Valencia are currently fourth-place in the table, three points behind Real Madrid in third, who play on Tuesday night. Crucially, Los Ches are also eight points clear of fifth-place Villarreal in the race for Champions League spots.

Marcelino’s side have rediscovered their form in recent weeks after a slight blip in form, recording three straight wins in the La Liga, scoring at least two goals in each victory. Los Ches form in front of goal has contributed to their being over 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last eight games in the Spanish top-flight.

The visitor’s recent away record in La Liga is not great, as Los Ches have lost four of their previous six games on their travels in the top-flight. Their recent away games have offered value for money entertainment wise though, as four of their last five away games in La Liga have produced over 2.5 goals.

Forebet predicts that Valencia’s recent poor away form will improve in this clash and Los Ches will improve their chances of Champions League football for next season.
