Valencia is a team that had struggled for the past few seasons and a takeover by the Singapore billionaire, Peter Lim in 2014 was supposed to herald a new era for Valencia after years of financial hardship, but it certainly wouldn't work that way.

Nuno Espirito Santo's sacking in November 2015 just months after leading the club back into the Champions League kicked off the merry-go-round that also saw Gary Neville and Pako Ayestaran come and go.

Things didn't get better when Italian coach Cesare Prandelli was also appointed as he resigned just after 10 games in charge, his resignation left Valencia without a permanent boss for the fourth time in just over a year, provoking not just instability but poorer results on the field with every passing coach as well.

Valencia spent most of last season trying to find their balance, and at one point everyone thought they might relegate because they stayed at 17th position for a while.

Marcelino García Toral was named their coach during the summer making it 6th boss in 2 years

But it seems that the appointment of  Marcelino García Toral has rapidly changed things in favour of Valencia.

Valencia are currently placed second in the Spanish La-Liga after 16 games, 5 points behind leaders Barcelona, they are also the highest scoring team aside from Barcelona and they've lost just one game this season.

They are going through a great season, and if they'll keep it up they might come in between Barcelona and Real Madrid in the La-Liga table.

The best player for Valencia has been no other one than Simone Zaza.

After a woeful spell with West Ham, the player signed for Valencia on loan from Juventus, he then failed to score in 11 games in all competitions and the Hammers were one more appearance away from having to spend €20m to make his move permanent. Zaza was left out of Slaven Bilic’s side instead and in January saw the rest of the loan taken on by Valencia.

The Former West Ham striker was then signed by Valencia from Juventus in a deal worth £13.7m.

The Italian striker is remembered for two things - his awful penalty for the Azzurri at Euro 2016 and his equally bad stint at West Ham last season. But that might be in the past now as he is among the hottest players in the Spanish La-Liga,

On the scoring chart he is only second to Leo Messi having netted 10 goals in 14 games. If he keeps up this performance, then Valencia will be fighting for the title all season long.

The last time Valencia won the league was 13 years ago when they had Benitez as their coach, will they repeat the same feat this season, we will have to wait until April to know if they'll still be in contention. But right now, they look like a title contender.
