On Wednesday night, Athletic Bilbao host Atletico Madrid at the San Mames, as both teams look to push into the top four of La Liga.

The home side have made a decent start to their La Liga campaign and currently sit sixth in the fledgeling La Liga table. Last time out Jose Angel Ziganda’s team suffered a 1-0 defeat at Las Palmas. The result was indicative of Athletic’s low scoring games of late, as there have been under 2.5 goals scored in Athletic’s last six games in all competitions.

There have also been under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last seven games in La Liga. Athletic are very strong on home soil and have suffered just one defeat in their last 20 outings in the Spanish top-flight at San Mames.

Athletic have also won four of their last six La Liga games at San Mames while scoring two or more goals in each victory. However, the home side have a poor recent record against Atletico, losing four of the last six meetings in all competitions.

Atletico have started their La Liga campaign with two wins and two draws. Last time out in La Liga, Diego Simeone’s side recorded a 1-0 home win over Malaga.

One of the visitor’s strengths in recent seasons has been that they are hard to beat. In fact, Atletico have suffered just one defeat in their last 18 outings in La Liga. Simeone’s side are also 14 games unbeaten on the road.

However, the visitors from the capital have drawn three of their last four away games in the Spanish top-flight. Simeone’s side will know a trip to Bilbao is never an easy one.

This game looks set to be very tight and Forebet predicts that this game will end in a draw.
