Two teams hoping to gatecrash the play-off spots in the Western Conference of MLS, Colorado Rapids and Seattle Sounders meet at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday.
The home side are ninth in the Western Conference table but are just three points behind LA Galaxy, who occupy the last play-off spot. The Rapids recent form has been inconsistent, although they have suffered two defeats in their last three MLS outings.
However, last time out Pablo Mastroeni’s side recorded a 3-1 win over Houston Dynamo. The win continued the home sides stellar run on home soil, as it was their fifth win on home soil in their last six games in MLS.
The Rapids recent home games in MLS have seen goals galore, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six games. Both teams have also scored in Colorado’s last four home games in MLS.
Seattle Sounders are above the home side by just two points in the standings. A win could, in fact, see Brian Schmetzer’s team move into the play-off spots if other results go their way.
However, Seattle’s recent form suggests that an away win in this clash is unlikely. The Sounders have won just one of their last five outings in MLS, failing to win in their last three league games.
The visitor’s away form in MLS has been poor of late, as they have recorded just one win in their last nine games on the road, while also losing four of their last five league games on their travels. They ended a four-game losing run on the road last time out by drawing 2-2 at Portland Timbers.
Schmetzer’s side have also conceded two or more goals in their last five away games on their travels in MLS. The visitor’s poor away record has contributed to Forebet predicting that Colorado Rapids will take home maximum points.
