San Lorenzo to boost Libertadores hopes with win at Talleres

San Lorenzo to boost Libertadores hopes with win at Talleres

On Wednesday, San Lorenzo travels to the Estadio Francisco Cabases to face Talleres, with the visitors needing a victory to have any hope of securing a top-four finish this season.

The home side have enjoyed a decent campaign after promotion from the Argentinian second tier last season. Frank Kudelka’s team are 14th in the Primera Division table but could finish the campaign as high as 12th, although they would need a big victory to finish 12th due to an inferior goal difference to Rosario Central.

Talleres’ form has not been great of late, as they have failed to win any of their last three Primera Division games, suffering two defeats in the process.  Last time out the home side played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Rosario Central.

The Cordoba outfit have been good entertainment value in recent games, with over 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five games in the Argentinian top-flight.

San Lorenzo will kick-off this clash in seventh place, two points behind fourth place Banfield who occupy the final Copa Libertadores spot.

A win would not guarantee San Lorenzo a spot in the continent's big competition, as Estudiantes and Independiente are also still yet to play their final game of the campaign. However, the Buenos Aires side have to win to have any chance of a top-four finish.

Diego Aguirre’s side have hampered their top-four chances with an inconsistent run of form of late. They have lost three of their last five games in the Argentinian top-flight. However, last time out the visitors recorded a 1-0 win over top-four rivals Banfield.

One positive is that they have won seven of their last nine home games in the league, including tough encounters against River Plate and of course Banfield.

Forebet predicts that the visitors will record a vital victory in this clash, but it may not be enough to clinch that all-important Copa Libertadores spot, though.
