Arsenal can end poor EPL run against Chelsea

Arsenal can end poor EPL run against Chelsea

Arsenal heads into an all-London clash with Chelsea on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium in good spirits having collected three straight wins in the top-flight.

The convincing 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the League Cup on Tuesday night will have only added to the good mood within the north London club. However, Sunday’s opponents represent are one of the Gunners bogey teams in recent years.

Arsene Wenger’s side have not beaten the Blues in nine Premier League games and their only win against their London rivals in the last 11 meetings came in the Community Shield.

The north London team will see this clash an ideal opportunity to end their poor run against the Blues and continue their good recent run of form in the top-flight.

Chelsea’s good start to the campaign has rather tapered off in recent top-flight games, as a draw with Swansea was followed by a highly-disappointing home defeat against Liverpool in their last top-flight outing.

It seems this could be a good time for Arsenal to play Chelsea, but there were seeds of recovery in midweek in the Blues 4-2 extra-time victory at English champions Leicester City. One particular plus point will have been the fact that Spanish midfielder and former-Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas bagged a brace.

Scoring a goal would be a good start for the Gunners, who have not scored against Chelsea in the last six meetings between the two teams. Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez has been in good form up front of late, while Spanish forward Lucas Perez scored twice in the win over Forest.

For Arsenal, this clash could represent their best chance to break that Premier League hoodoo against the Blues that they have had in a long time. However, this is Arsenal and of late they have none anything easy, so this game could be a very interesting watch for the neutral.
