Rating the biggest Premier League transfers this summer

With the summer transfer now closed, it feels like the right time to take a look at some of the biggest Premier League transfers this summer and rate them based on a number of factors.

Has Crisitano Ronaldo still got what it takes to cut it in the Premier League? Will Jack Grealish shine at Manchester City? Can Ben White help Arsenal? Let’s find out.

• Cristiano Ronaldo – Juventus to Manchester United (£13.50m)

In terms of the fee, Ronaldo’s move from Juventus to Manchester United is nowhere near the biggest Premier League transfer of the summer. But when it comes to the sheer magnitude of the deal, CR7’s return to Old Trafford is off the charts.

That said, Man Utd don’t exactly need Ronaldo. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad is stacked with quality in the attacking department, while other areas – namely defensive midfield – still require reinforcements.

On top of that, Ronaldo is now 36. While there is no denying that he will continue to score goals this season, he could struggle to readjust to the demands of the English top flight.

• Jack Grealish – Aston Villa to Manchester City (£105.75m)

Manchester City broke the British transfer record when they signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for just over £105m. Of course, Grealish is an excellent player. But is he really worth that much?

The ex-Villain made 213 appearances for his boyhood club, racking up 32 goals and 43 assists in the process. If he can take his game to the next level under Pep Guardiola, he could become one of the league’s standout players.

• Romelu Lukaku – Inter Milan to Chelsea (£103.50m)

It’s safe to say that things didn’t quite work out for Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea the first time around. The striker only made a handful of appearances for the Blues before spending time on loan at various clubs.

However, he has since transformed himself into one of the best forwards in world football. Not only is he Belgium’s all-time leading goalscorer, but he also fired Inter Milan to the Serie A title last season.

Having already scored on his second Chelsea debut against Arsenal, Lukaku looks set to shine for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

• Jadon Sancho – Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United (£76.50m)

After chalking up a phenomenal 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games for Borussia Dortmund, there is absolutely no denying Jadon Sancho is an excellent addition to Man Utd’s forward line.

Better yet, the England winger is still only 21. With plenty of time to improve, Sancho could easily transform himself into one of the greatest players in the history of the Premier League.

• Ben White – Brighton to Arsenal (£52.65m)

While Ben White has the potential to become a top-class player, it feels as though the £52m fee that Arsenal paid Brighton to acquire his services is far too high.

It could be argued that Mikel Arteta’s squad needs strengthening in other areas, too. Although White could turn out to be a great signing in years to come, he will find it difficult to live up to his hefty price tag.
