Southampton’s bid for automatic promotion has cooled off. They are 12 points off the top two and set to fight for promotion in the playoffs. Coventry City picked up a point in the reverse fixture this season courtesy of a 1-1 draw.
Coventry City are just outside of the promotion playoffs. Four points separate the Sky Blues from the top six. However, they have a game in hand. Coventry won four of their last five matches in the league.
Southampton failed to win their last three matches in the Championship. They took just two points from their last nine on offer. Two of their last three matches ended with both teams scoring.
Ipswich Town will start the midweek round in second place. A point separates Ipswich from first-place Leicester. Ipswich lost two of their last five matches, including against Norwich City at the weekend 1-0.
Watford drew their last three matches in the Championship. The Hornets scored four goals and conceded four goals during that time.
Ipswich Town went to Vicarage Road and won 2-1 earlier in the season. The Tractor Boys are the Championship’s top scoring team, with 84 goals.
Cardiff City will be happy with their season, as a mid-table finish looks likely. Despite losing three of their last four games, the Bluebirds are 11th with 56 points. They are coming off a 3-1 loss to Hull City.
Birmingham City won the reverse fixture against Cardiff 1-0. It was the Blues first win over Cardiff in six attempts. Cardiff City outscored Birmingham City 9-5 across those six games.
Birmingham City lost five of their last six Championship games. They are in the relegation zone and one point off safety. No team in the Championship is in worse form currently than Birmingham City.
