As for Bayer Leverkusen, they drew 1-1 with West Ham on Thursday, punching their ticket to the last four of the Europa League thanks to a 3-1 aggregate win.
That result means that Alonso’s side remain unbeaten across all competitions this season, having registered 38 wins and six draws in 2023-24.
Last weekend, Leverkusen secured their first-ever Bundesliga title with a 5-0 thrashing of Werder Bremen, with Florian Wirtz netting a hat-trick in the rout.
Consequently, Bayer head into Sunday’s clash on a 10-game winning streak in the league, having kept a clean sheet in 50% of those encounters.
Head-to-head: Borussia Dortmund managed to hold Bayer Leverkusen to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture back in December.
It is also worth noting that BVB have won four of their previous six Bundesliga meetings with Leverkusen, suffering a solitary defeat in the process.
Team news: Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi is suspended after picking up a red card last weekend, while Ramy Bensebaini, Sebastien Haller and Donyell Malen are injured.

Given what Leverkusen have already achieved this season, it is difficult to imagine Alonso’s side tasting defeat this weekend.
