Having dispatched Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month, Newcastle United welcome Borussia Dortmund to St. James’ Park on Wednesday.

With two games in the books, Eddie Howe’s side find themselves atop Group F – the so-called group of death – after taking four points from a possible six.

At the opposite end of the standings and with a solitary point to their name, Borussia Dortmund occupy last place following a run of one draw and one defeat.

Newcastle started to their Champions League campaign with a goalless draw against AC Milan, despite facing a barrage of 25 shots at the San Siro.

On Matchday 2, the Magpies crushed PSG 4-1 at St. James’ Park, scoring twice in each half to blow away the perennial French champions.

Howe’s men also scored four goals on Saturday, thrashing Crystal Palace 4-0. Just like the game against PSG, four different players found the back of the net.

As a result, Newcastle head into Wednesday’s clash on an eight-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, having picked up six wins and two draws since their last loss.

Borussia Dortmund have also enjoyed a strong start to the season, losing just one of their 11 matches across all competitions.

That defeat came against PSG in their UCL opener, but they picked up their first European point of the campaign by holding Milan to a goalless draw earlier this month.

Dortmund claimed a 1-0 victory over Werder Bremen at the weekend, meaning they have won four of their previous five games across all competitions.

It is also worth noting that BVB have kept three clean sheets in their last five games, scoring nine goals in reply, so they will fancy their chances of triumphing on Wednesday.

Head-to-head: This is the first-ever meeting between Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund, meaning there are no previous results to assess for this fixture.

Team news: Newcastle’s injury list contains Havery Barnes and Sven Botman, while Joe Willock remains a doubt for Wednesday’s clash.

On the flip side, Borussia Dortmund look set to be without the injured duo of Julian Duranville and Youssoufa Moukoko for the foreseeable future.

With two attack-minded sides ready to do battle at St. James’ Park, Wednesday’s showdown will likely be an entertaining affair with goals at both ends.

Forebet predicts that Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund will serve up a high-scoring thriller on Wednesday, sharing the spoils in the process.
