Inconsistent AC Milan will play host to Roma in one of the stand-out fixtures in this weekend’s action in Serie A at their Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, but holding home advantage is no guarantee of success as AC Milan found out before the lockdown when they were handed a 2-1 defeat by Genoa.

AC Milan did manage to bounce back with almost immediate effect (after a three-month delay) last weekend when they dished out a convincing 4-1 win away from home against relegation-threatened Lecce, but they’re likely to have their hands full once again this Sunday when they entertain 5th placed Roma.

Sunday’s hosts, AC Milan, currently occupy 8th place on the Serie A ladder and although they’re just three points behind 6th placed Napoli, the hosts look a mile away from being considered serious challengers for a spot in Europe next season.

Wins against Torino 1-0 at home and the aforementioned win at Lecce have been tempered by defeats to crosstown rivals, Inter Milan 4-2 and the 2-1 loss at home to Genoa

Although Stefano Pioli’s side have lost just once in their last seven matches, the hosts have only won two of their last eight matches on home turf.

Onto Roma and the visitors still have a possible top four spot to aim for in Serie A as they trail 4th placed Atalanta by a six-point margin but a win in Milan could slash the deficit in half and put pressure back on the 4th placed outfit.

Roma had to endure something of a sticky patch a while ago as the visitors gained just one win from their previous seven matches, a miserable sequence of results which also included five defeats, but they’ve since staged something of a recovery.

The visitors have won their last three matches on the trot in the Italian top flight with victories gained over Lecce 4-0, Cagliari 4-3 and Sampdoria 2-1, so the momentum appears to have swung in Roma’s favour ahead of this upcoming clash on Sunday.

With four wins out of their last seven matches on their travels, Roma certainly appear to be the more likely of these two clubs to walk away with all three points in this encounter, but the ‘double chance’ handicap appeals for Roma here.
