Just before this, Xavi's men managed to defeat Real Sociedad to move back into second, as Lamine Yamal got another goal for the season, alongside a penalty finish from Raphinha.
This game was also meant to be the final match in Xavi’s managerial career at Barcelona, but a dramatic turnaround in his decision to leave means he is staying for next season.
Oddly enough, Xavi's side did lose to Barcelona Girona in a recent outing, as Andreas Christensen gave his team the lead after three minutes before an equaliser a minute later.

This does still mean they can get relegated this season, but with six points left to play for and a gap of nine on Cadiz in terms of goals difference, they will need to lose their final two games and avoid a dramatic turnover in goals.
It's a massive difference to last season, but given how this is only Vallecano's third season in a row in La Liga, fans will just be pleased to have survived for another year. A point in this game will secure that survival.
