Sunday evening also features action from the Italian top flight and a Serie A clash between Genoa and Cagliari in the lower reaches of the division at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris with both teams needing all three points in their quest to avoid the dreaded trap-door down to Serie B.
With six points separating them from fourth from bottom opponents Cagliari and safety, Genoa’s need for the three points in this encounter appears to be more acute as the hosts loom to avoid a fourth league defeat on the trot in the domestic top flight following losses to Verona, Lazio and AC Milan.

It is worth noting however, that two of these three defeats were incurred on their travels and prior to this recent flurry of losses, Genoa had also put together a rather stubborn looking run of eight matches without defeat in Serie A.
This sequence of results consisted of seven draws and a win - the solitary victory coming in the form of a narrow 1-0 home win against Torino and with just one defeat in their last six games on home soil, Genoa may at least stop the rot here.
Onto Cagliari and the visitors are perched just above the relegation zone in Serie A but most importantly, they hold a six-point cushion above the bottom three prior to this upcoming trip to the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.
Cagliari’s current six-point buffer has been assisted by their recent 1-0 home win against Sassuolo which would have been a very welcome victory indeed especially as Cagliari had previously suffered five league defeats on the trot in Serie A.
Losses to Lazio, Spezia, AC Milan, Udinese and Juventus not only raised the alarm bells of a possible relegation battle but also resulted in Cagliari conceding a total of 13 goals in the process and the visitors are still not yet out of the woods either.
Cagliari have also managed a meagre three away wins throughout the whole of this season’s Serie A campaign which were achieved at Sampdoria, Atalanta and Torino but these have been Cagliari’s only highlights in their last 17 outings on the road in the Italian top flight.
To conclude, this looks like being a tightly fought battle with neither team relishing the thought of defeat, so a draw may be the most likely outcome here.
