Colombia are in desperate need of a win in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying on Tuesday night versus Argentina.

The Colombians are sixth in World Cup qualifying and two points off of the inter-confederations playoff place occupied by Uruguay.

Argentina, on the other hand, are second in World Cup qualifying and have already sealed a place in this year’s World Cup in Qatar. Lionel Scaloni’s team is now seeking a strong finish to the qualifying campaign.

The Sky Blues are on a 17-game unbeaten run in all competitions. Last time out, Argentina posted a 2-1 win over Chile courtesy of goals from Angel Di Maria and Lautaro Martinez.

Colombia are on an awful run of form. Reinaldo Rueda has won just once in its last seven games. Los Cafeteros fell 1-0 to Peru last week in World Cup qualifying. The team conceded in the 85th minute giving Peru the win.

Los Cafeteros have failed to score in six of their last seven games. Rueda needs to end Colombia’s awful scoring slump to get a result this week. Failure to pick up points could see Colombia fall as many as five points off of fifth place.

Argentina have a brilliant head-to-head record against Colombia. The Sky Blues have posted a record of 24W-8D-9L all time versus the Colombians. Their last two games versus Colombia ended without a loss.

Scaloni will need to shuffle the pack against Colombia. Nicolas Otamendi, Nicolas Tagliafico, Rodrigo de Paul, and Leandro Paredes are all four suspended and will play no part in the fixture.

Guido Rodriguez, Emiliano Buendia, Lucas Ocampos, and Maxi Meza are all available to play this time around. Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister is sidelined after a positive COVID-19 test. Alejandro Gomez is a doubt due to an ankle injury.

Colombia manager Rueda will have to contend with a suspension as Everton’s Yerry Mina is ruled out due to an accumulation of yellow cards. William Tesillo is likely to step into the breach for Mina.

Rueda could shuffle the team further due to needing goals. Colombia have scored just twice in their last seven games in all competitions. Four of their last seven games ended nil-nil.

In 2021, Argentina and Colombia met two times in World Cup qualifying and the Copa America. The teams drew 2-2 in World Cup qualifying and 1-1 at the Copa America.

This time around, Colombia will gain another draw versus Argentina as both teams find the back of the net with under 2.5 goals scored. The draw could be the catalyst to Colombia improving their form.
