The Premier League returns to action this weekend following the second international break of the season. Needless to say, FPL managers have a lot to think about.

With several popular assets unavailable due to injury, it could be time to think about the wildcard – if you haven’t already!

Before we get stuck into the top FPL picks for Gameweek 8, let’s take a look at the upcoming fixtures.

    • Watford vs. Liverpool

    • Southampton vs. Leeds

    • Norwich vs. Brighton

    • Aston Villa vs. Wolves

    • Leicester vs. Manchester United

    • Manchester City vs. Burnley

    • Brentford vs. Chelsea

    • Everton vs. West Ham

    • Newcastle vs. Tottenham

    • Arsenal vs. Crystal Palace

Watford and Liverpool get the Gameweek 8 action underway, going head-to-head at Vicarage Road in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Leicester vs. Manchester United and Brentford vs. Chelsea are the standout fixtures later in the day, before Arsenal host Crystal Palace for Monday Night Football.

Here are the top picks for FPL Gameweek 8.

    Goalkeeper

Alisson (Liverpool), Ederson (Man City) and Hugo Lloris (Tottenham) are locked on 35 points atop the goalkeeper leaderboard.

Ederson will be confident of keeping a clean sheet against low-scoring Burnley, while Alisson and Lloris come up against Watford and Newcastle, respectively.

Norwich have netted just two goals all season, meaning Robert Sanchez (Brighton) stands an excellent chance of building on his impressive start to the campaign.

    Defenders

With Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) both injury doubts, other Chelsea and Liverpool defenders will be popular picks this weekend.

Marcos Alonso (Chelsea), Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) and Andy Robertson (Liverpool) are all notable replacements.

If you’re looking for a solid differential pick in defence, Shane Duffy (Brighton), Matty Cash (Aston Villa) and Michael Keane (Everton) are all worth considering.

    Midfielders

If you don’t already have Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) in your team, then get him! The Egyptian King has 70 points to his name, 26 more than the next highest-scoring midfielder – Said Benrahma (West Ham).

Abdoulaye Doucoure (Everton) and Andros Townsend (Everton) have also hit the ground running this season, as has Toffees team-mate Demarai Gray (Everton).

Man City could have a field day against struggling Burnley, making Jack Grealish (Man City), Bernardo Silva (Man City) and Ferran Torres (Man City) realistic point-getters.

    Forwards

With question marks over the fitness of Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) and Patrick Bamford (Leeds), FPL managers have some decisions to make.

At the top of the forwards leaderboard, Michail Antonio (West Ham) and Jamie Vardy (Leicester) sit on 49 points and 48 points, respectively.

Wanderers duo Raul Jimenez (Wolves) and Hwang (Wolves) combined for a couple of goals before the international break, so they could cause Aston Villa some problems this weekend.
