In fact, it is just their fourth campaign in Spain’s top flight, having spent most of their history in the lower tiers, and this rise up to second and the battle for the title is no doubt one of the most remarkable stories of the decade.

Alexander Sorloth was back amongst the goals, however, with a goal in the first half to equalise and a winner in the 97th minute. He is also now behind Dovbyk by just one goal in the race for the top scorer award, making this game all the more interesting.
Villarreal's hope for a return to Europe, on the other hand, is all but over, as they are adrift of Real Betis in sixth by eight points with only nine left to play for. Ultimately, they need a bunch of different results to go their way from now until the end of the season.
